Types of Position Mode
- FAQ
Hedge Mode
In hedge mode, you can hold positions in both long and short directions simultaneously under the same contract, so as to hedge risks of two positions with different directions.
One-way Mode
In one-way mode, you can only hold a position in one direction under one contract.
Meanwhile, you are available to choose the Reduce-only order type, which only serves to reduce your position amount and ensure not to increase your position by avoiding placing reverse orders.
For example:
1. Assuming Tom trades BTC/USDT swaps in the hedge mode. He buys to open a long position of 10 conts and then sells to open a short position of 20 conts. At this time, he holds a long position of 10 conts and a short position of 20 conts BTC/USDT swaps.
2. Assume Tom trades BTC/USDT swaps in the one-way mode. He buys 10 conts, and sells 20 conts without choosing reduce-only order type. That is, when the sell order is filled, the system will help close a long position of 10 conts, and place a short order of 10 conts. In the end, he holds a short position of 10 conts BTC/USDT swaps.
3. Assume Tom trades BTC/USDT swaps in the one-way mode. He buys 10 conts, and chooses to sell 10 conts by reduce-only order type. That is, when the sell order is filled, the system will help close a long position of 10 conts. In the end, he holds no position of BTC/USDT swaps.
Please Note:
1. In the isolated margin mode, the position mode of each contract is separate without affecting each other. Provided there are no positions or open orders for one contract, the contract’s position mode can be switched at any time. In the cross margin mode, the position mode is mutual for all contracts. Only if there are no positions or open orders of all contracts, the position mode can be adjusted.
2. Reduce-only orders can only be available in the one-way mode. When you place a reduce-only order, the amount shall be equal to or less than the amount available to close.
3. Grid trading can only be available in the hedge mode.
4. All Flash Close orders are Reduce-only orders.
